Abysmal graphics and rather cursory coverage of many topics

This book contains numerous black-and-white photographs, tables, diagrams and text boxes of such low quality that reading a single chapter is enough to give you a headache. There is a great deal of interesting anecdotal information. However, this is at the expense of directly relevant factual information and technical details that are included in other environmental health texts.

Great high school curricula for the homeschooled!

I love the way it gave a brief introduction to the professional fields of study, motivating my students to explore these further and find a possible future in them as a career. It also gave them a deeper appreciation and concern for the state of our environment.

Public Health environmental

Terribly boring. The diagrams and pictures explain everything, and the unnecessarily long chapters re-explain everything in excruciating detail. I can only read for about 25 seconds before falling asleep. But it is very thorough and makes things easy to understand. The diagrams are helpful, and the glossary in the back is nice. Unless this book is specifically required, try to find a more interesting one!!

Queen of the wolves

I received this book for an honest review.

The story line of Hidden Queen was fantastic. A young werewolf princess witnesses her parents being murdered and has to go into hiding, but hiding wont keep her safe. I loved this new take on wolves and vampires.

However, it needed editing. There were wrong and misspelled words, and tenses got mixed up which made it a hard book to read.

If this book was edited I'd give it a higher rating based on a great story. I'm also very interested in seeing where the rest of the story goes.

I don't usually do this, but I hope that this helps.

I loved the love story. It was a great, and refreshing. I can't say much more without giving away the story line. But for someone who has read TONS of these, it was a nice change of pace. I liked the plot, and the timeline.

While there wasn't explicit sex, there was sex. To me, I'd say it was R rated (but if you don't like sex scenes in books then I'd say read at your own risk). I do like that they don't have to be naked to shift. So you don't have a bunch of horny werewolves running around naked all of the time.

The story was pretty good, editing was HORRIBLE and at some points distracted from the story because it'd take me a minute just to figure out what she was trying to say.

By the end she was getting pretty silly. She's different from everyone. She feels like she's this average person, and all the boys she's attracted to are "Greek Gods". And they all worship her beauty. But not only that she's so strong that she can beat EVERYONE at hand to hand combat in training. She gets these special powers because she's the queen, but it doesn't stop there, she gets even more special powers, and then later her relationship is so rare that it's like a fairy tale to everyone, and makes her even more special and powerful. It's like her character flaws are that she "loves too much" or "cares too deeply".

The thing that bummed me the most is that it turned out to be the first installment in another trilogy. I didn't see any real indication when I found this book, and I was waiting for the resolution as I was reading. When I realized that I wasn't going to get the ending I lost all interest. Because while I liked the book I'm not interested in waiting 2 years, and spending at least $8 more to get to the end.

Great premise... horrible writing

I gave this 2 stars because I though the story itself was good. However, the writing and "editing" was absolutely atrocious. I forced myself to read this because I like the story. It does end with a cliffhanger, more or less. There's more story to tell and I'm sure it's interesting. But, I truly hope that the author takes more care and/or has someone- ANYONE- proofread the next book. I would be embarrassed to have someone read this as is if I wrote it.

About the Author

Michael D. Lyman is Professor of Criminal Justice at Columbia College of Missouri, located in Columbia, MO. In addition to being a teaching faculty member, he serves as the program Coordinator for the Master of Science of Criminal Justice Program and the founder of the college’s Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science Program. Before entering the field of college teaching, he was employed as a criminal investigator for state police organizations in Kansas and Oklahoma and has taught literally thousands of law enforcement officers in the proper police techniques and methods of professional criminal investigation. Dr. Lyman has authored numerous textbooks in criminal justice dealing with the areas of criminal investigation, policing, organized crime, drug enforcement, and drug trafficking. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wichita State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri–Columbia. He has been called upon on an estimated 300 occasions by law enforcement and the legal communities to review criminal investigations and render the results of his evaluations and his opinions in federal court proceedings nationwide.

Excellent Text to Learn Shorthand

I used this book before and found it excellent. I did not carry through with practicing, so I am back with the book again. I was/am very pleased with it.

Con: My only nitpick is the colored background (dark blue with black fonts) which sometimes makes it difficult to read. But otherwise, it is an excellent book and still worth 5 stars.

About the Author
Umran Inan is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, where he has led pioneering research in plasma physics and electromagnetics for over 30 years. As a committed teacher, he has authored two previous books that have become standard textbooks for electromagnetics courses, as well as receiving numerous awards including the Tau Beta Pi Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award and Outstanding Service Award from the Electrical Engineering Department for Excellence in Teaching. He is a fellow of both the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

Marek Gołkowski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Colorado, Denver, which he joined after completing his Ph.D. at Stanford University. He has won several awards including the Young Scientists Award by the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, and the Outstanding Student Paper Award from the American Geophysical Union. His current research focuses on electromagnetics and biological applications of plasmas.

very nice introduction to plasma physics.

I am currently working on my phD thesis on astrophysics .My thesis is on plasma instabilities around Accretion disks and obviously , a knowledge of plasma physics is crucial.I find this book an excellent source to start getting involved in deep on plasma physics.
In particular , the kinetic theory ( which is usually hard to grasp ) is very easily presented .
Many problems are left at the end of every chapter though , there are no answer for them.
However , the suitable amount of examples illustrated in every chapter , make very accessible the solutions of those problems at the end of every chapter.
before going to Landau or Bittencourt , go to this beautiful book.

Very helpful with useful examples

Unlike most other plasma books which get into very specific formulations very fast, this book is very readable. I would say it is like the best chapters of the Francis Chen plasma book, with the added bonus of worked numerical examples. Single particle motion, fluid and kinetic theory are very clearly explained. This book is a good balance between the intuitive explanations of Chen and the from first principles of the more obtuse book (Fundamentals of Plasma Physics) by Bittencourt.

Plasma physics is not an easy concept to grasp. This book really breaks it down and helps keep the different methods and ideas straight. It also helped that my professor wrote the book but he is great at making difficult material manageable and this book reflects that.
